Tools Needed:
- New recoil spring compatible with Sig Sauer P229
- Clean workspace
- Safety glasses
- Cleaning supplies
Instructions:
- Ensure Safety First
- Ensure the firearm is unloaded. Remove the magazine and lock the slide back.
- Visually and physically check to ensure there is no round in the chamber. - Disassemble the Firearm
- With the slide locked back, rotate the takedown lever (located on the left side of the frame) downward to the 6 o'clock position.
- Release the slide by allowing it to move forward gently while maintaining control. - Remove the Slide Assembly
- Pull the slide assembly off the frame by moving it forward and off the rails. - Remove the Recoil Spring and Guide Rod
- The recoil spring and guide rod are located under the barrel within the slide assembly.
- Compress the recoil spring slightly and lift the guide rod out from the barrel lug. Be cautious as the spring is under tension. - Replace the Recoil Spring
- Remove the old recoil spring from the guide rod.
- Inspect the guide rod and clean if necessary.
- Install the new recoil spring onto the guide rod, ensuring it is properly seated. - Reassemble the Slide Assembly
- Insert the guide rod and new recoil spring assembly back into its position under the barrel, ensuring the guide rod is seated correctly in the barrel lug. - Reattach the Slide to the Frame
- Align the slide with the frame rails and push it back onto the frame until it locks in place.
- Rotate the takedown lever back to its original position to lock the slide in place. - Perform a Function Check
- Rack the slide several times to ensure it moves smoothly.
- Engage the slide lock to ensure it locks back properly.
- Dry fire the firearm (with an empty chamber) to ensure the trigger and other mechanisms are functioning correctly. - Final Inspection
- Visually inspect the firearm to ensure everything is properly assembled and there are no loose parts.
- Perform a final safety check to ensure the firearm is unloaded.
